Just Go With It - Katherine meets Palmer
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4VNC8hZHHFE

Cinematography:

  • Shot on Katherine is slow and goes from bottom to top to show her dramatic transformation.
  • Mid shot of Danny and Palmer to show their reactions to Katherine approaching.
  • Camera focuses back on Katherine but also shows other people in the back using a mid shot to show how the attention is on Katherine.
  • High key lighting is used to suggest the plan is going well so far.
  • Some of Dannys face has sunlight shining on it and the rest is covered in shadow suggesting he's two faced or not telling the whole truth to Palmer.
  • Sunlight was on Palmer when it was just her and Danny but now Katherine is sitting down its on her back (took away Palmer's attention).

Sound:
  • Non diegetic song starts playing when the camera goes on Katherine: 'Roxanne' by The Police.
  • Song is louder when its on Katherine showing she's the centre of attention.
  • The song lyrics say, 'Put on the red light'
  • A red light makes people stop which is what Katherine did when she walked in the hotel.
  • Other lyrics in the song speak about a girl, 'Loved you since I knew you' which foreshadows something will happen between Danny and Katherine as they're long time friends.

Mis-en-scene:
  • Katherine is wearing the clothes Danny bought her to make her over.
  • They're all drinking alcohol which helps make the story about Katherine taking pills and drinking (being a bad wife in general) more believable to Palmer.
  • Set in a fancy hotel which matches Katherines transformation.
  • Palmers phone is on the table showing she has nothing to hide (Danny's and Katherine's phones are not on the table and they're lying to Palmer).

Performance:
  • Palmer is sitting up very still and straight and just making confused facial expressions with not much dialogue (feels uncomfortable hearing things she thinks are true).
  • Danny is really laid back and Katherine uses her hands a lot when speaking showing they're both really comfortable lying.

Representation:
  • Its easier to lie rather than tell the truth as Danny and Katherine look so much for comfortable than Palmer in the whole situation.
  • The name of the movie is 'Just go with it' which means its easier to just go with the lie and keep making more on the way instead of telling the truth.

Ideology:
  • Danny and Katherine are sitting closer together and seem more comfortable around each other which shows sometimes we have what were looking for right in front of us but we just ignore it for something thats out of our comfort zone.

Spectatorship:
  • A passive spectator would feel sorry for Palmer for having to listen to all those lies and get hurt if the truth came out.
  • An active spectator on the other hand would support it as it helps bring Danny and Katherine together in the end which maybe might've not happened if Palmer didn't come into Danny's life.
