Cinematography and Lighting:
- Flashes of the knife when getting sharpened.
- Close ups of people preparing chickens to cook.
- Keeps showing that one chickens reactions to what's happening to the other chickens.
- Cold lighting and in the shadows at the beginning.
- First close up on a person is on Lil Ze which straight away presents him as a leader.
- Lil Ze gets two close ups at once.
- When Rocket is finally shown the film slows down and he gets mid shots instead of intense close ups like Lil Ze.
- Rocket has the first proper bit of dialogue making him more likeable to the audience straight away.
- 360 spin on Rocket when they show the throwback.
- Warm lighting in the throwback, more sky, less cramped and open space.
Sound:
- Knives being sharpened, without the imagery it sounds like violence but in reality its to prepare a meal.
- Traditional Brazilian music plays during the chasing of the chicken but stops when it goes onto to Rocket almost as if to say he's not involved in any of that.
Editing:
- Transitions
- Fast pace
- Low angle shots on Lil Ze showing domination
Ideology:
- Chicken presents the people that tried to escape City of God but failed such as Shaggy and Benny.
- Gun (violence) and camera (ambition) are presented as the two possibilities of getting out of City of God (camera click also slightly sounds like a smaller gunshot).
- Ambition is the only one that actually works as shown by Rocket.'
